Reggae Month is officially coming to Canada, with the month of February declared as a time to celebrate the globally influential genre beginning in 2026. The City of Brampton and the Durham Regional Council have become the first municipalities to issue formal proclamations, marking a historic move to elevate reggae’s cultural and social impact across the country.
The initiative, endorsed by Jamaica’s Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, positions Reggae Month as a global celebration. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown described reggae as “a gift from Jamaica to the world,” praising its powerful messages of peace, love, justice, and unity.
Jamaica’s Consul-General in Toronto, Kurt Davis, welcomed the recognition, stating that reggae is a tool to spread heritage and influence while advancing messages of social justice.
